The Digital Democracy Camp WS 25/26
The Digital Democracy Camp goes into the second round!
On February 12 and 13 2026, another BarCamp will take place, this time over two days.
The kick-off starts on Thursday afternoon with a joint welcome, the thematic introduction and an exciting input on the culture of discussion and debate. We will then work on initial topics and discuss them together - including with a representative of the KIT Executive Board, who will provide insights into current participation processes.
On Friday, the focus will be on the presentation of a student project (students of the Institute of Information Systems (WIN)), which deals with the strengthening of participation opportunities for students. Various digital tools will be presented that show how e-participation can promote transparency and participation. In interactive rounds at themed tables, participants can experience for themselves how such platforms can be designed and what role user experience plays in successful participation.
The Digital Democracy Camp will focus on e-participation - the question of how digital participation can make our democracy more open, inclusive and sustainable.
The Digital Democracy Camp SoSe 25
The Digital Democracy Camp (DDC) was a one-day workshop on May 23, 2025.
In terms of content, the focus was on the fundamentals and central topics of digital democracy. In an exchange between students, experts and interested parties, we dealt with the following topics:
- From global politics to KIT - Are we being ruled by oligarchs?
- Citizens' councils as a student participation format: What can high-quality dialog do that voting cannot?
- Shutting down social networks - saving democracy?
- Back to Basic: Why do we want digital democracy at all? What skills do we need at KIT to constructively engage in discourse?
- Digital participation in the neighborhood - Is civil society being left behind?
The main topics were developed in a participatory manner with students in the Future of Democracy seminar, among others. They were developed together with experts and with the help of a specially developed chatbot.
The topics were moderated by:
Dr. Simon Derpmann (KIT - ARRTI), Hannes Haßmann (Uni Tübingen), Sarah Herrmann (KIT - HoC), Anika Kaiser (Uni Tübingen), Dr. Alexa Maria Kunz (KIT - HoC), Prof. Dr. Michael Mäs (KIT - HoC), Dr. Brigitte Reiser (lpb), Paul Wiesen (KIT - Student)
The workshop was also be enriched by other participants from the fields of democracy education and student participation.
We would also like to thank annaandthelight for the great photos.
