The Digital Democracy Camp SoSe 25

Experience the future of democracy up close

The Digital Democracy Camp (DDC) was a one-day workshop on May 23, 2025.

In terms of content, the focus was on the fundamentals and central topics of digital democracy. In an exchange between students, experts and interested parties, we dealt with the following topics:

  • From global politics to KIT - Are we being ruled by oligarchs?
  • Citizens' councils as a student participation format: What can high-quality dialog do that voting cannot?
  • Shutting down social networks - saving democracy?
  • Back to Basic: Why do we want digital democracy at all? What skills do we need at KIT to constructively engage in discourse?
  • Digital participation in the neighborhood - Is civil society being left behind?

The main topics were developed in a participatory manner with students in the Future of Democracy seminar, among others. They were developed together with experts and with the help of a specially developed chatbot.

The topics were moderated by:

Dr. Simon Derpmann (KIT - ARRTI), Hannes Haßmann (Uni Tübingen), Sarah Herrmann (KIT - HoC), Anika Kaiser (Uni Tübingen), Dr. Alexa Maria Kunz (KIT - HoC), Prof. Dr. Michael Mäs (KIT - HoC), Dr. Brigitte Reiser (lpb), Paul Wiesen (KIT - Student)

The workshop was also be enriched by other participants from the fields of democracy education and student participation.
